When you receive your set of rings the  material on the outside of the ring should be removed first and discarded. You then can separate the inner circle from the outer ring. Save the glossy paper backing to store your rings and circles on. It is normal for the rings to be less sticky as time goes on, this does not reduce their usefulness. The rings and circles do not slide on the cloth to any significant degree even with very little adhesive backing. Also there has not been any evidence of cloth damage as a result of using my Billiard Practice Rings.
